Yellow Truck Moving is a veteran-owned, licensed and insured moving company based in Lisle, Illinois, and we run daily across four counties: Cook, DuPage, Lake and Kane. That is roughly a fifty-mile radius around our yard, which covers downtown Chicago high-rises, the western suburbs along I-88, the North Shore, and the Lake County communities north of the tollway.
"Coverage" is not just a line on a map. It means our crews already know how the buildings and the municipalities in these places work — which downtown towers require a certificate of insurance naming the building, which villages require a street-parking permit for a 26-foot truck, which subdivisions have gate codes and quiet hours, and which older suburbs have staircases that will not take a sofa without a doorway coming off. Local knowledge is most of what keeps a move on schedule.
Cook County
Cook County is the most operationally complex part of our coverage. Chicago proper means freight-elevator reservations, certificates of insurance naming the building, ward parking permits and alley access that a full-size truck may not fit down. North of the city, Evanston, Skokie, Park Ridge and the North Shore villages mix dense rental turnover with large single-family homes, so the same crew may run a walk-up in the morning and an estate move in the afternoon.
DuPage County
DuPage is our home county — the yard is in Lisle, on E Ogden Ave. Moves here are dominated by family relocations timed around school calendars, townhouse and condo communities, and corporate relocations along the I-88 research and office corridor. Driveways usually solve the parking problem, which makes DuPage moves faster per cubic foot than city work, but HOA rules, quiet hours and gate access still need arranging in advance.
Lake County
Lake County spreads out. Distances between addresses are longer, lots are larger, and private drives in places like Lake Forest can be too narrow or too soft for a fully loaded 26-footer, which sometimes means a shuttle. Buffalo Grove, Libertyville and Lake Zurich lean toward family homes and subdivision moves; Highland Park and Lake Forest bring antiques, art and estate contents that need crating rather than cartons.
Kane County
Kane County coverage centers on Aurora, the second-largest city in Illinois and a market with two very different housing profiles: historic homes near the downtown and the Fox River, and newer subdivisions on the east and far west sides. Older properties mean narrow staircases and original woodwork worth protecting; newer ones mean straightforward driveway loads and longer drive times between addresses.
Typical move types by area
What we are asked to do changes noticeably from one part of Chicagoland to another. In the city it is apartments, condos and high-rise moves booked around a two-hour elevator window. In Naperville, Wheaton, Glen Ellyn and Libertyville it is family homes moving in the summer gap between school years. In Hinsdale, Oak Brook, Winnetka and Lake Forest it is larger houses with antiques, pianos and art, where white-glove handling matters more than speed. Along the I-88 corridor it is corporate and office relocations, usually run after hours.
Travel, access and timing
Two practical things shape the day. The first is access: where a truck can legally park, how far the carry is from the tailgate to the door, whether there is an elevator and whether it can be reserved, and how tight the staircase turns are. The second is traffic. A move that crosses the city during rush hour costs more time than the mileage suggests, so we schedule long crosstown runs early and keep month-end and first-of-month dates — the busiest slots in this market — booked well ahead.
