Most people booking a move only need two or three of the services below, but it is rarely obvious which two or three. The short version: the move services differ by distance and by who is moving, and everything else on this page is something you can bolt onto a move — or buy entirely on its own.
If both addresses are in Illinois and within about an hour of each other, that is a local move, billed by the hour. Cross a state line and it becomes a long-distance move, billed by weight or volume plus mileage, with a different set of federal rules attached. Offices, clinics and retail spaces are their own category because the driver is downtime, not square footage — those run after hours or over a weekend.

Choosing between local and long-distance
The dividing line is regulatory, not emotional. A move from Chicago to Rockford is a long day but still an Illinois intrastate job. A move from Chicago to northwest Indiana is a twenty-minute drive and a federally regulated interstate move, with a written estimate, a bill of lading and valuation coverage attached. If you are not sure which one you are booking, tell us both addresses and we will tell you.
When to add packing
Packing is the single biggest lever on how a move day goes. Boxes that are packed, sealed and labeled load in a fraction of the time of a house still in progress, and on an hourly local move that difference is money. Full packing makes sense if you are short on time or moving a kitchen and a china cabinet; partial or fragile-only packing is enough for most households. Unpacking is priced separately and is worth it mainly when you have to be functional immediately.
When labor-only is the right call
If you have already rented a truck or a container and only need muscle and technique, labor-only is the cheapest way to buy professional handling. It is also the right choice for in-home rearranging, a single heavy piece, or loading a container that has to be released the same day. What it does not include is transport or liability for the drive.
When you need storage
Closing dates rarely line up. Overnight and short-term storage bridges the gap — the shipment stays with us and is redelivered when the new place is ready. If the gap is a single night, holding the load on the truck avoids an extra handling cycle and is usually cheaper.
Specialty, assembly and junk removal
White-glove and specialty handling is not a premium tier of the same service — it is a different pace, different equipment, and often custom crating built to the piece. Book it when a piano, a safe, art, or stone is involved. Furniture assembly and junk removal are the bookends: one gets the new place usable, the other stops you from paying to transport things you were going to throw away. Combining junk removal with your move is almost always cheaper than booking it separately, since the crew and truck are on site.
